Finest Exercise Program - Jogging

17/09/2009 09:54

Of late, I have changed to a new exercise and that's jogging. Well! its new to me cos I have not really jogged since school days.

Why jogging?

I am not sure exactly why I took that considering the fact that I am a really lazy person and I hate to do put my body through so much torture just to keep in shape. I am always looking for the easy way to keep fit but hey like they all say - no pain no gain.

In my early 20s, I hardly exercised except an occasional yoga workout. However as I grow older, I realise I am piling bit more fats here there on my hips and despite being slim , I can do better than that. My goal is to achieve that tone and svelte physique.

I started on swimming a couple of years which I really enjoy but I really get exhausted after the workout and the next thing you know - i am in bed dozing off.Recently I was talking to my brother and asked him for tips on getting a flat toned abdomen. My brother is very religious when it comes to exercise. From a chubby boy,he went on to become a lean, toned strong man. HE hits the gym every other day and of course he jogs. However what he told me got me thinking seriously about my exercise regime. He doesn't do any sort of crunches or sit ups. In fact he relies on jogging to keep his abdomen and body toned. So why can't I do that?

I subsribed to various health websites etc etc andif you read them well, there is no magic way of losing weight or to be toned. You got to incorporate a cardiovascular exercise i.e 30 minutes of brisk walking or 20 mins of jog three times a week. Now if you really look at the time required to just pay attention to our body, it's not much. How much time we waste away lying on our bed and staring into the empty space or surfing the net aimlessl and ending up spending more money on things that you don't require. Guilty guilty hmmmm... Instead shouldn't we plan our day and dedicate 30 minutes just for ourselves - the euphoric start to a day? Apart from the physical benefits that jogging brings, it also gives us some mental joy.

So what are exactly the benefits of jogging? Though we all know the answers to that, but sometimes you need to read it to believe it and for the 'do it' feeling to kick in.

- Stimulates your heart rate

- Burns your fats especially the stubborn ones.

- Tones your body

- Increases your metabolism

- Burns more calories - You lose more weight!!! yyiippeeee

- Strengthens your muscles and bone density of legs, hip and back.

And the list goes on... but the few pointers here must have got you thinking.

If this is your first time jogging, start at a slower pace first for few minutes (10 mins) and build it up slowly over the next few sessions. You can start off first with brisk walking for 02 rounds (jogging track), run 01 round and, walk another 02 rounds and jog another 01 more round. Afterwhich you can cool off by walking at a slower pace  for a couple of  rounds.(this is how I do it!!)

Do not overwork yourself in the beginning and build up gradually  on your time, distance and speed.

Please also do remember to do some stretching or warm ups before starting your jog/run. It is advisable to stretch out before and after each jogging program.
