Cleaning Your Makeup Brushes

19/11/2009 13:35

If you are using you makeup brushes on a daily basis, it's vital to clean them regularly too and this habit is also essential in helping to keep your brushes in a good form.

With every application of makeup, these brushes becomes coated with cosmetics residue, skin oil etc thus making it more prone for bacteria to settle down. This results in your brushes aging quickly and even effect the application of your makeup as well. Can you imagine the bacteria and dirt from your brush going onto your face (eeeewwww!!) and well we all know what happens - that is wear acne, pimples, breakouts and infections are born.

Frequent washing of your brushes not only keeps your brushes healthy but your face as well. ( I wash mine once a week)

Another good habit to inculcate would be that after every use, wipe your makeup brushes with a fresh baby wipe. This will reduce the makeup residue and oils.

1. Wet the bristles of the brushes in lukewater to wet them.

2. Drop a small amount of Baby shampoo (ph level 5.5) onto your palm and lather your brushes well in it.

3. Rinse throughly, ensuring that all shampoo reside has left the brushes.

4. Squeeze the excess moisture out of the brushes lightly, reshape the brushhead and lay them down on a clean towel or towel paper in a downwards positon to dry. (* If you put your brushes in an upward position to dry, the water will not be able to get out and will cause further problems such as rusting metal and mild dewing wood)

PLEASE....

  • Don't wash your brushes in boiling water, thinking that it's more effective to sterilise.
  • Air dry your brushes before storing it away.
